Morning Skin Care Routine for Eczema and Dry Skin
I don’t know if you think like me, but there doesn’t seem to be nearly enough content and information about dry skin. Our oily-skinned friends seem to get all the love out here. Now I know that acne can be a huge struggle to deal with so I’m certainly not trying to downplay that. I do want to raise awareness and provide more information for all of my dry-skinned, eczema prone ladies and gentlemen out there. With that, here is my morning skin care routine for eczema and dry skin!
I am someone who has struggled with eczema and dry skin since I was 4 years old. I’ve gone through severe eczema and Topical Steroid Withdrawal and all kinds of craziness with my skin since then. So that you don’t have to suffer like me, I wanted to share the routine I use to help keep my skin moisturized and feeling flawless.
This routine is specifically for those with dry and sensitive skin. I also like to use simple and effective products that work well but don’t break the bank. Sound good?
Then let’s go!
Le Morning Routine
Step 1: Gently Wash Thy Face
This is more to wake yourself up and ensure you have a fresh and clean palette to put your skin care and make up onto.
I’m currently using Acure Seriously Soothing Cleansing Cream.
It’s surprisingly very gentle. I find that most cleansers I try are harsh and really dry out my skin. I’m super picky because I hate that tight feeling you can get when it feels like all the moisture has been sucked out of your face.
This cleanser is nice soothing just like the bottle says.
Step 2: Spritz or Pat on Toner
Even though my skin can be as dry as the Sahara Desert, I still manage to get a few pimples here and there. Using this toner seems to put my skin right back into balance to combat small breakouts. I only use this on the spots where I usually experience breakouts and not on any particularly dry parts of my face.
I currently use Humphrey’s Witch Hazel Facial Toner. It’s been my go to for years now. (Although I heard Thayer’s toner works well too) As long as your toner is Alcohol Free and non-drying, that’s what’s most important.
Or if you want an even more gentle toner alternative, use Rosewater. It’s refreshing and oh so light. I use this on my drier days.
Step 3: Moisturizer! (and oil boost)
We have arrived to my absolutely favorite part of my routine! Moisturizer!
Before I found this particular moisturizer, I really struggled to maintain a good sense of moisture in my skin. All the other moisturizers just wouldn’t do the trick.
I have bought over 50 bottles of this stuff. Without this lotion I would have never made it through the dark days of severe eczema. Even though my skin has gotten better, I still can’t find anything nearly as good. It’s called Shikai Borage Therapy Advanced Formula.
Technically this is for your body, but the quality of this lotion allows for you to use it as a facial moisturizer as well.
Both delicate and intensely moisturizing, this lotion is my all time favorite skin product.
If it’s a dry and cold winter day, I put a couple drops of The Ordinary’s Squalane Oil. Or Rosehip Seed Oil from any good quality, all-natural brand.
Step 5: Protect Yo Self From the Blazing Sun
Last but not least, sunscreen! Rain or shine, sunscreen is a must for any skin care routine! From the oiliest to the driest, we all are equal in this. I myself am darker complected and have only gotten a sunburn once in my life and STILL I need to use sunscreen.
The sun radiates both UVA and UVB. No protection from UVA’s can lead to premature aging, wrinkling, and auto-immune suppression. Lack of protection from UVB’s play a main role in sunburns and skin cancer development.
I currently use Alba Botanica SPF 45 Sunscreen. I will probably switch to another brand to be honest, but I haven’t decided what to try next yet.
If you have any recommendations, please let me know! I would love to hear them!
